No resistor

Post by wa1nca »

Waiting to here from Skychs
I wanted him to verifiy his led taillight assy ( I think he has a led board instead of a bulb like ours)
and see if he has a diagram and take a few readings and then will post a response

Led taillight

Post by wa1nca »

Thanks for some great shots of your rear tailight bulb
#3 pic shows all lights are on but brake light is dim because you must have taken the pic with just the tailight on
That is good for me to understand you rear tailight bulb

If you could please take a voltmeter reading for me
Looks like the 2 terminals next to each other top is ground and one with the green wire also attached is you tail light feed
The terminal by itself should be your brake light feed

ground your voltmeter
with tail light on your tail light feed should be 6 volts
and then measure your brake light feed (without your brake light on) and my quess it will be lower than 6 volts maybe 4 volts
This will confirm that the bulb you are using already has a resistor built into its design

LED's

Post by skychs »

You are correct ...........

My battery is a little low because of all the playing with the electrical system so ...... the voltage checked out just below 6 and 4. I will trickle charge it over night and check it again in the morning just to make sure. Hopefully all the black dots (in my eyes) from the bright LEDs will be gone by then. :-)

I bought the LEDs from CLASSIC DYNAMO & REGULATOR CONVERSIONS LTD about a year ago. I have been very happy with everything I have installed.

The only bulb I have not been able to find is the license plate/parking bulb in the rear tail light. You can see from the photos that it's still a regular bulb. If anyone has a link for that bulb it would complete my /2 to LEDs.

Problem solved. :-)

Led taillight

Post by wa1nca »

Thanks
I know why your rear tailight worked without a resistor as in my original design
It may not work with a different led without internal resistor

Anyway this tread has been great
Looking forward working with you to get your directional working and mostly also with your new sidecar brake/tail/right directional and front running light

Licence plate bulb
I think they may have one CLASSIC DYNAMO & REGULATOR CONVERSIONS LTD (CRD)
Will check
If not I will make one work with the same base

I am also working on a side car rig and will set it up with all led lights on my 1955 R50

Licence plate bulb

Looks like CLASSIC DYNAMO & REGULATOR CONVERSIONS LTD (CRD) has a small b15 clear 5 watt led listed that should be a good replacement
