New horse in the stable

Post by The Plunger »

Just arrived, a 1963 R69s. It has a lower quality paint job and rattle can touch ups but the striping is really nice...shame. Some new Metzelers, some polishing and a tune up and she'll be ready to ride. Dang, winter is coming.

Nice man!
Yeah it's wet and cold in the Pacific Northwest now with lots of leaves falling on the streets.
Hoping Saturday to go for a couple hour ride if it's dry out.

Glad you have room for a new horse

My shed is packed to the gunnels, so no new bikes for this little black duck.

The 69s looks good, hope you have lots of fun rides.

Here's a better pic. Built April 8, 1963 and sent to B&S. This is about as close to my May 1st, 1963 hatching as I can hope to find, as R69S production ceased at the end of April and re-started in October.

The bike looks great . I love my 1961 R69s . I did a complete restoration on mine . Fitted R69 pistons which are slightly lower compression to make it a more pleasant ride . I intend to sell my " modern " bike a Yamaha TRX 850 because I enjoy the R69s more to ride . Bought my first BMW an R50 new in 1959 , then a R60 and finally a R69 . The R69s I have at the moment was bought in about 1977 .

Brian -

Do you have the VIN for your new ride? I could add your info to my growing list. You can send me a private message to keep things secure.

I'd never heard this about BMW shutting down R69S production after April 1963 and restarting in October. Where did you hear that info? Interesting, when looking at my list of R69S production, I have one built April 18 1963 and then next entry is October 14 1963...and the VINs are in consecutive order. I hadn't noticed that before.

Kurt, you caught me, your database is where I spied that! Also, years ago I emailed BMW Archives to ask what serial numbers of R69S's were built on May 1, 1963 and was told, none, as production had switched to R60's.
I'm not shy about #'s. 657737

Thanks...I'll make a note in my database that BMW switched the production line during this period. Interesting fact!
