+1 on using a cork gasket

Post by patentgeek »

+1 on using a cork gasket with a high quality sealant on the oil pan. I've used silicone gaskets on the valve covers with good success, but had issues with leaks using a silicone gasket on the oil pan. A decent quality cast aluminum deep sump will tend to provide a better sealing surface than the stock steel oil pan.

If you're not a stickler for originality, consider replacing the oil pan bolts with studs and nuts, using thread sealant on the studs that screw into the block. This allows for removing the oil pan by removing the nuts without disrupting the thread sealant.

Studs sound like a better idea for the sump.

Thanks for the idea.
