/2 Clutch/Pressure plate spacers

Post by cderosa202 »

1964 R50/2

So I'm at the point I'm reinstalling (did not disassemble... this is from a pile of parts) a new 9mm clutch plate into a a flywheel/spring/pressure plate assembly. My "pile of parts" did not have the (6) hardened spacers indicated in the Barrington book. the book says, "Should you want to put in the spacers..." Well, I looked at Vech's site, and I assume that if I go with my 9mm clutch plate, I *NEED* the spacers between flywheel and pressure plate, correct? Do I have it right that the typical 5mm or 7mm clutch plate could do without them.

Looking for confirmation. I already have them on order.

Thanks!

Could you show us pictures of what you have ready to install?

Here are some pics.
The rear flywheel in the engine case
And the stack of spring, drive plate, clutch plate, and pressure plate in the order they go.
It’s about shimming the pressure plate with the hardened spacers.

That is a fat clutch plate!!! Is this for sidecar duty? Or? I have the later/new manufacture diaphragm spring on my R69S and was told later it is from a R90S (?) and it is too stiff com pared to original. Next time trans is off I am installing the old, original spring. Long story short, new springs may be not to original spec.

So maybe I shouldn’t have bought the 9mm.
But I guess to use it, I’ll put in the shim washers.
No biggie. I’ll get it together. Thanks.

Not ruling out a future sidecar.
