Speedo

Post by speight1823 »

Sorry you misunderstood me. My fault.
My shells are BMW pre war speedo shells . I have 4 but only need 2.
I was wondering if the parts from a M72 speedo could be made to fit into the BMW speedo shells.
Are you after a Pre war headlamp shell ? I may have one . I would have to look.
All the best

Thanks Bill, both my R12's are 1939, an original shell, civilian or military would be great. A lot of the shells I've seen have holes drilled in them to fix the ignition in place but the original ignition boards were held in place with a pronged frame which was welded inside the shell (see attached).

If you do have a shell that is original and will fit please send me photos, even if we can see them for reference purposes, I would be interested in buying one from you.

Regards

John

Many thanks Jack this is exactly what I needed to help me source one. Worth keeping these photos for reference. Does anyone have one for sale?

Pre war BMW speedo

Post by speight1823 »

Thanks for the link on the M72 speedo's.
The working parts look very similar to the pre war BMW speedo's.
Has anyone tried to use these M72 parts in a Pre war BMW speedo?
I ask this question as I have 4 BMW pre war speedo casings , with original dekels but with little other internal parts .
Would be great if I could use the M72 parts , even with some modification in these.
Speedo's would not be original but better than what I have now.

It should work, for exemple

Post by luca.stere »

It should work, for exemple you can find here a speedo for BMW R71 made from a Ural M72 speedo: http://www.oldtimergarage.eu/catalog/pr ... ts_id=1914 . Just read the description.

Do not try to use the later russian speedos from K750, Dnepr MT9, Ural M62/M63/M66 because they are different on the back and a little taller.

This speedometers were common

Post by yameml »

This speedometers were common used also after the war my mz BK 350cc build in east Germany has the same speedo meter as my BMW R61 only the plate is different BMW has Veigel and The MZ maw as far as I remember both 1.0 geared.
Be carefully these teller plates are easy to buy on the internet ,so they change a Russian teller into a BMW one.
Working hard on the restoration of my BMW R61 (over 50 years in the family)
