Took my first cross country ride a bit more than 50 years ago now on a '69 R69S. No fairing or bags, just a bunch of stuff bungeed to the back. I didn't know what I didn't know! LOL! Thinking this one is far better prepared for that next cross-country jaunt!

Anyone else out there headed to Borrego?

I don't have any pics of the Avonaire sans headlight, but, basically you just remove the stock headlight/reflector assembly from the stock headlight shell and mount it on the mounting ring built into the Avonaire fairing. I made a short extension harness for the headlight electrical wires that connects to the stock wires on the circuit board in the headlight shell. The stock headlight shell just stays in place on the forks. I used an old Vetter headlight shell "cap" I had on the shelves to seal up the headlight shell to keep dirt, water, etc. from getting in. Thinking Vetter copied this headlight mounting idea a decade or two later on his Windjammer fairings

Hope that helps.
