Paint the inside of your headlamp bucket white.

I am sure I learned this from a BMW owner as I first did this on my R69. Painting the inside of the bucket provides great visibility when fault finding on a dark road with a weak flashlight. The clarity of reflection and easy identification of colored wires is very helpful. The picture below is of my Norton Commando restoration but you get the idea. I do this on all of my motorcycles now.
