Re: R60/5 timing

Pistons are all the way out at OT mark. Move the crank a few degrees either way and piston moves in. I just wanted to confirm that the cam is timed correctly to the crank. I had the front cover off a while back but never thought to check the timing. Bike runs good, no knock, but a little lazy coming...

R60/5 timing

I have to time my R60/5 at “F” mark at idle. Flywheel is bolted to the crank in the correct position. If timed at the S position it will back fire and the plugs will be black. Can anyone tell me the position of the flat of the D on the advance when flywheel is at the OT position?

Re: Cleaning the engine, transmission and final drive

“Your cases look fine but............. I know of at least two guys that tried to seal the cases really well and they both had to take the motor apart because of abrasive material that got into the motor.” I agree with you on the dangers of of the abrasive materials getting inside the engine. But I a...

Re: Cleaning the engine, transmission and final drive

This is the method of cleaning aluminum cases when apart. I bought a Small blast cabinet to blast the components first with play sand from home center. Clean out cabinet of sand and switch over to glass beads. The glass beads give a nice satin finish. The sand takes out the stains and corrosion but ...

Re: Low oil pressure - im looking for clues

What are your rpm’s at idle? It’s a good sign if you have oil coming out of the rockers when just cranking over. I would also check your oil cooler lines to see if they are warm right away after start up. Please post what you find.

Re: Oil top ends right side BMW R60/5.

I think the next thing I would do is remove the oil sending unit, put a rubber tip blow gun and see if there is any air coming out of oil feed holes to the cylinder at the block. Cylinder being removed for this test. If there is no air leaving the holes, then I would start looking for an internal pr...

Re: Oil top ends right side BMW R60/5.

Your problem sounds exactly like my experience. I asked exactly the same questions on this forum in 2016. Go to page 17 and check it out. When you stated that you could blow air through oil passage, there should be a restriction. That’s what I reasoned when I was diagnosing my problem. I finally rem...

Re: Oil top ends right side BMW R60/5.

I had the same problem about fours years ago after a restoration on my R60/5. The block is machined between the cylinder studs, for clearance of the connecting rod bolts. When my block was machined, it went through the oil gallery, resulting in hardly no oil to rockers. The oval spot in the mirror i...
