Bought the 81 R65 but it broke down already

Here is a good discussion of the $2000 o-ring: http://home.jps.net/~snowbum/Oil.htm I'm not sure about the R65 as it is a little different in various areas. There's a canister within the engine which has a sharp lip on it which can cut into the large white o-ring. The oil filter fits inside this can...

Registry

There's a registry of older BMWs at http://www.micapeak.com/reg/bikes/oldBMWs/. You might be able to get a sense of where you bike falls by comparing to other VINs. In addition, on the Yahoo /2 forum, there's a database of bikes listed. The few VINs listed near yours are: 1966 R69S - 6622xx 1969 R69...

Re: Floats

The JB Weld is holding well enough to get the carbs adjusted, can one buy just the floats? TIFN

Vech in Missisippi at Benchmark Works also carries the bearings.

Try here: http://www.ibmwr.org/market/ Look under Vintage. Actually they only show 3 bikes and one is a '78 model and the other is a clone, the EMW. The only true vintage bike is a 1953 model...not what you're looking for.

Shouldn't take long, depending on how busy they are. I'd suspect in a week of so... If several weeks go by, I have another email addy within the organization that you could try. But I think they'll just forward the email to Fred or someone in his area.

I have a '69 R69S which is about 400 units higher than yours. I've been told my bike was built March/April 1968 and delivered to a German dealer in December 1968. You should try sending an email to: fred.jakobs@bmw.de giving him the serial number and another information you have. I did and he sent m...

67 R69US

Not sure they made '67 R69US models...I think they're listed as '68-69s, but I suppose someone could have gotten it titled as a 1967. A WAG is $10000-12000 to over $15000 depending on level of restoration. Over the past few months, here's some prices I saw in the BMWMOA flea market: '69 R60US - &quo...

squeak or screeching noise shifting into 2nd and 3rd-R65

The splines on the tranny are on the forward side...male in nature. The clutch disk (the female part) slips over and slides on the tranny splines. There are also a set of splines at the rear wheel that also need lubing, but that's easy to do and a different story. It's not really all that difficult ...

squeak or screeching noise shifting into 2nd and 3rd-R65

Generally, those older airheads are correct. The splines need lubing every so often, although 5K miles might be a bit often. Maybe on the order of 20K or so miles is my take on it. If the splines need lubing, the symptom will most likely be difficulty in shifting in terms of a stiff pull or jerky en...
