Gen light /6 on at low revs/starting bike

Hi folks, This has probably been answered in some way before, but I couldn’t find a direct answer as it’s not quite broken. I with recent riding something has started happening, I have the gen light come on when I’ve just started the bike and at low revs… Disappears after 1400rpm but it’s back until...

Re: R75/6 engine / Oil temp

Yup the pictures were taken are right after the riding you mentioned and the engine cooled back down. Might richen up the fuel mix screw and see if it helps out… I’ve done similar runs and checked the plugs before, similar looking. But that was before the rings were run in. I haven’t had time to do ...

[quote=schrader7032 post_id=81819 time=1655635800 user_id=2299] If the R80 is 1981-on, you will need to get rid of the older flywheel and clutch pack. Lots of effort and cost. I’m a little lost on the R80 timeline. The /7 doesn’t count right? It’s a just “newe...

Re: R75/6 engine / Oil temp

The plugs seem ok. Some soot around the edge which I think will be the oily situation I have. Again. No smoke and seems to be running well. But I definitely think the oil is passing the rings… There’s a small pool of oil at the bottom of the cylinder. The amount, I imagine is the cylinder walls coll...

It’s a just “newer” /6? The real R80 is the finned gearbox version? Technically, at least as seen on the bike, the /7 wa...

Re: /6 gearbox options

As I mentioned, I really don't think the internals of the two transmissions are the same so a newer style shift pack won't fit into the older trans. My friend at his shop grafted a 77 engine into a 85 bike for a fellow. Sort of the same thing you are thinking about. I won't be at the shop until nex...

Re: R75/6 engine / Oil temp

Let me have another look inside the cylinder.

See if I can take another picture.

And I’ll check the spark plugs too.

Re: /6 gearbox options

Thanks for the reply guys! So I have a 75 /6 gearbox… I replaced the bearings etc. and realised a while ago that the shift mechanism is the old style and I was planning on replacing it with a post 75 style shift mech. But realised it’s actually hard finding those!! But what I see more of are the r80...

Re: R75/6 engine / Oil temp

It’s wet from the oil I think… but there’s no smoke

I’m wondering if the carb is set rich, but I’ve had no running issues.

Oh and Schrader, I think the head gasket is on backwards. The pushrod holes don’t line up with the gasket.

/6 gearbox options

Basic question, (and probably answered somewhere and a while back) can I install a R80 gearbox onto a ‘76 /6?

Or even just the shift mechanism/shift cam?

Limited to rebuilding the existing gearbox and noticed the spare shift mechanism I have is a pre 75 (neutral switch is different)

Thanks!
