Re: OLD MAN SLINGER RANT!!

Todd, LOL!!! When did we get to be "Old Men"?!! Last I looked I was still in my 30's!! Todd/R68, Definitely on target. I rarely let a new motor go more than 50 miles before the first oil change. Again at 100 miles or so, 500 miles and every 1000 thereafter... Also, hate to star...

Re: OLD MAN SLINGER RANT!!

Some of you were posting while I was typing the reply above. YES! Do NOT use detergent oils in an old bike being brought back to life! If you want an "11th Internet Commandment", that should be it!

Re: OLD MAN SLINGER RANT!!

Guys, Step back a bit and take a close look at the oiling system on a slinger equipped vintage BMW engine. A full slinger on its own will not block an oil passage and destroy your crankshaft. If your slingers are "full", especially on a low mileage bike, your engine has other problems that...

OLD MAN SLINGER RANT!!

I was catching up on some current threads here after having been gone for a month and finally had enough! " The engine slingers service is a must... " (on a 25K mile bike) - apologies mcsherry1328, this is not directed at you personally, but at the now "11th Internet Commandment"...

Re: Current Values are DOWN!

James, The sky is NOT falling even if the "weather" in Vegas was a bit "overcast" this year. Been attending Vegas for over 30 years now as both a buyer and seller, and some years are stronger than others for lots of reasons - economy, covid, etc. It is also a venue that LOVES &qu...

Re: Steering Damper Handwheel / Knob Configurations

Kevin, You are absolutely correct that the steering damper knob changed over the years starting in '74, and that the new current production knobs are quite different. (And the differences in the pics you posted are clear and are NOT just the knob orientation.) I've attached two pics. The first is fr...

Re: locking gas cap assembly

If you haven't "lived" with one of these, you don't know what you're NOT missing... Definitely in the running for the "least worthwhile/most disappointing" but "cool" accessory I've had over the years. Seemed like a good idea "at the time". If you're actually ...

Re: Denfeld vs Pagusa?

Didn't know there was an "early" and a "late" SFS seat? That said, the original plunger seat frame is a bit different from the R50-R69 series seat frames so not sure comparing a plunger seat to a later model gives you all the info you need to make that determination. Regardless, ...

Re: Denfeld vs Pagusa?

Here are some pics of an original '55 only vertical spring seat as used on the 1955 R50 and R69. Just a bit easier to see the details here than in the pic that Dave posted above of his '55 (nice bike by the way). You will note that the mounting "T" bracket is different than the one shown i...

Re: R51/3 air cleaner element

Kurt/Vech, The material I typically use is about a 1/2" +/- thick. I usually buy it off eBay (search "foam air filter sheet"). I like the light green because it is easy to see when it gets dirty. One layer is plenty, same as what is used on a typical "sock" air filter like t...
