The chain driven cam engines

The chain driven cam engines have 6 holes on the front cover as Luigi says. Do you have 1934 series 5 engine? The crankshaft is different to earlier gear driven cam R11's along with the main bearing types. Deep grove ball bearings (6207M) in the series 5 and i believe roller bearings in the earlier ...

Hi Barry I am surprised you

Hi Barry I am surprised you haven’t had helpful advice from more local sources, there must be some specialist brake/clutch re-lining services in your part of the world. If it helps these people have done both brakes on my R11. I don’t remember the cost, it wasn’t much, but imagine the shipping to th...

The R12 has ball bearing

The R12 has ball bearing mains and roller bearing big ends, an oil feed supplies each main bearing and the big end bearing via drilling’s in the crank. The main oil feed pipe also feeds the timing chain gear and a fourth outlet goes into the filter. The filter can in theory get 25% of the oil flow....

If you have a new crank do

If you have a new crank do you also have new timing gears on the crank, cam or idler (intermediate) gear? You seem to have difficulty with tightness of the cam and I am wondering if this is due to any new gears. I fitted new (polyamide) gears on a gear driven engine and found some machining was nece...

I would try remove the cam

I would try remove the cam with it in the bike. Never done it but I think should be possible like you say. The bolt is the only thing holding the cam front bearing. You will need to extract the oil pump drive shaft and gear first. The difficult bit maybe engaging the cam back into the rear bearing, ...

Valve clearance set cold from

Valve clearance set cold from my info is 0.05 to 0.1mm for both inlet and exhaust. I have just found some hand written technical info from the 70's my father used. I don't know if it helps with the original question in the post but it indicates valve spring lengths, outer 42mm, inner 38mm.

Hi. I'm just north of Leeds

Hi. I'm just north of Leeds and have a couple of early BMW's. I met a guy in Harrogate last year with an identical bike, wondering if it's the same bike that's moved south?
