This may be chicken and egg...

I'm not sure who marketed the system first, or for that matter, who actually makes it.

Where to buy?

I notice that Motorrad Elektrik includes the various necessary bulbs and an ordinary battery in the $575 purchase price, which is the same price as Bench Mark. For a sealed battery from ME the cost is $45 extra. I already have a 6V H4 conversion kit in my Vetter fairing (in place of the old sealed b...

Is there a good

Is there a good maintenance-free 12V battery for use with the 12-Volt conversion that Benchmark and Motorrad Electrik sell? I note that Vech recommends a Yuasa, but I think that is an acid-filled battery and I would rather avoid it if possible. I have a Westco 6V agm batttery in the bike now and I r...

Frame Stamp

Here is a poor shot of my frame stamp. I'll try to get a better picture later today.

Mine seems to be stamped straight into the steel of the frame.

They did it after the frame was painted, so the numbers often have some rust in the grooves. I may be wrong, but I don't see anything like lead.

(I had a 1970 2002. It served us well for 250,000 miles, until my daughter was T-boned by a Crown Vic. Both cars totaled, daughter banged up a bit.)

If the 4 is stamped over some

If the 4 is stamped over some other number, the real question is why? A simple mis-stamp at the factory or by a dealer is a reasonable guess, but I agree that the smooth surface behind the numbers is a real puzzle. Together with the missing frame number, it really seems odd. Just speculating, I supp...

Note that the numbers don't

Note that the numbers don't line up on the first of Darryl's VINs, either. The first three numbers(622) tilt downward to the right, as do the second set of three numbers (336). It looks like the two groups could have been struck separately. Kurt's numbers are misaligned, too, but more randomly, this...

I'll only disagree with one

I'll only disagree with one part of your description. You can charge a cell phone, as well as a GPS, on the 6V system. I just set mine up to do exactly that. I have a Vetter fairing, which gave me a nice, handy place to install the power supply, but you can use a tie to attach it just about anywhere.

Yes. What I learned is that

Yes. What I learned is that the cigarette lighter plugs for the Garmin GPS and on my Blackberry cell phone regulate the voltage so that it does not go over 5V. With a Powerlet mini-usb adapter, you can plug either device into a Powerlet (BMW) outlet and not have to use the cigarette lighter plug.
