I would reuse the risers as

I would reuse the risers as long as they continue to work and looked fine...especially if they're the original risers. Vech does sell risers. Probably not something you're interested in, but for those that are having problems with bars contacting the tank, especially if you're running larger than st...

I wouldn't think that a /6

I wouldn't think that a /6 rear subframe would fit on a bike with SWB driveshaft and swingarm. Wouldn't the tire and fender rub? The other thing that the /6 subframe allowed for was the deeper battery. So it sounds to me like if the subframe is the longer one but the swingarm is the shorter one, the...

I'd go with Bing rather than Haynes. Just curious...what are the settings per your book as compared to Bing? Here's the Bing numbers:

Main jet - 150
Needle jet - 2.68
Jet needle - 241
Idle jet - 45
Clip pos - 2
Idle mix setting - 1

And then there's the trend to

And then there's the trend to E15 and higher concentrations of ethanol. That can't be good for these older engines. Internal heat is increased which will damage the engines. Heat is what will accelerate the valve recession. It's been stated that the '70 to '80 bikes will eventually have valve recess...

Take plenty of pictures

Take plenty of pictures and/or draw some diagrams...I'm sure you would do that. My R25/2 was rewired before I got it. They used an R27 harness I believe. That kind of concerned me, so I sat down and traced each wire and compared them to the wiring diagrams. Everything made sense, so I feel a bit bet...

Well, as you've said from the

Well, as you've said from the start, it's getting gas from some other circuit besides the idle circuit. So, there's something wrong with the ports in the carb. Maybe this might help visualize what's going on. These are pages from a Bulter and Smith magazine that came out in the '70s. http://www.omni...

Yeah, you're going to need to

Yeah, you're going to need to resolve the idle jet issue if you can run the jet into to closed and still have the carb run. As you say, it's getting gas from somewhere. Can you lay out specifically what you did on the carb rebuild? I'm wondering about the throttle shaft and butterfly...I've always l...

How does the bike run at

How does the bike run at speed? Are you able to hold a good 70-75 mph or can you accelerate pretty well from 50 and up? Diaphragms can create rich running conditions, especially when they have holes in them. The holes don't allow the slides to rise to the proper height and waste fuel to keep the bik...

Grant - My R25/2 does bounce

Grant - My R25/2 does bounce a little but was improved quite a bit by a new cable. My R69S is not totally rock solid, but pretty good from memory. My /7 speedometer is rock solid, though. I don't know what can be making things bounce... There's the spinning drive off of the transmission into which t...
