Re: Engine dies when I pull right side spark plug cap

I would have to say your bike is only idling on the left cylinder. If the right was pulling its weight the engine would at least slow down when you pulled that plug. Probably not ignition, but the carb. Is it possible the really small idle jet is blocked on the right side?

Baking at 400 gets rid of residual oils. Always a good idea as part of a cleaning process.

Re: Replacing "new age oils"

First, Modern oils are much better than oils from the 60's and 70's.

That said I would still change the oil at least annually. Hopefully at the end of the season before laying it up for the winter.

Memories of a past ride

Winter of 78/79 We had been camped in Death Valley and heading back to the SF Bay area - about 500 miles to ride. My wife was on the back of our R90S and Rick was riding his his R100S. We had stopped in Mojave and noticed the skies were not looking friendly. So, we decided to get moving. As we start...

Re: Hearing protection

I don't use hearing aids. My dad did and I hopeI never get there. The ringing is bad enough.

Re: Hearing protection

Body temp is enough to gently soften Silly Putty. It does not flow. The doctor that gave me the idea got it from patients that dive and need to keep water out of the ear canal. Even diving 15-20 feet the water pressure doesn't push the SP in. Been using SP for some years with no issues. I still use ...

Re: Heinrich tank

I never knew some Heinrich tanks had a cutout out for the sidecar mount. I will take a closer look when I get back to Washington next week.

Re: Heinrich tank

A standard (8 Gal?) Heinrich tank fit my conversion/sidecar. Even had room under the tank for a /6 brake master cylinder. My coils went in the /2 battery case and the battery in the sidecar.

Hearing protection

You do use hearing protection when you ride, don't you? Many years ago I didn't. Now I have hearing loss and tinnitus. So I now use hearing protection. Even when I drive my car on trips. Over the last few years I've tried nearly everything: - Earmuffs when mowing or in the machine shop - Foam Earplu...
