Re: /2 Crank nose bearing advice needed from experienced engine assemblers.

I envision needing a sleeve with a length of about .3cm and the bearing would rest against that. The inside diameter of the sleeve would match the inside diameter of the nose bearing. The outside diameter of the sleeve would be slightly smaller than the inside diameter of the timing gear. Make sense?

Re: /2 Crank nose bearing advice needed from experienced engine assemblers.

Malmac,
Thank you! James helped me identify the difference. (see picture) Unfortunately I don't have a machine shop but I can be pretty resourceful.

Re: /2 Crank nose bearing advice needed from experienced engine assemblers.

The timing gear can't slip past the bearing inner race because the diameter is larger but maybe it should butt up against that crank edge and press on the bearing race? One way or the other it looks like I will soon be removing the cam assembly then the front bearing carrier to see If I can identify...

Re: /2 Crank nose bearing advice needed from experienced engine assemblers.

James thank you again for your time and offering your experience and sample crankshaft! your rule shows 2.5xcm that part on my crank is 2.2cm. the depth of the timing gear is ~2.4cm. Another thing of concern is that edge/wall/lip your rule is pushed against doesn't quite clear the main bearing. Mayb...

Re: /2 Crank nose bearing advice needed from experienced engine assemblers.

James, Just have a moment still have a day job. My thought is the crank is in correct position. I have .50mm clearance between the front slinger and bearing carrier and .75mm clearance in the back. The rods line up in the middle of the cylinder. I have pictures. that I can follow up with. I don't un...

Re: /2 Crank nose bearing advice needed from experienced engine assemblers.

Chris, Interesting comment about C0 vs C3. On another note: I have a tenancy to overthink things. ;-) It's possible scores of engines have been reassembled without considering the clearance between the gear and bearing. Possibly the first time the engine heats up and cools down the bearing moves dee...

Re: /2 Crank nose bearing advice needed from experienced engine assemblers.

What physical design separates the bearing from touching the gear? Please see picture.
