Looks great! Big Bend in

Looks great! Big Bend in late October sounds like a nice adventure. Put a couple of substantial shakedown trips on it before heading out to "no country for old bikes".

Ooo, yes, Rick---now that I

Ooo, yes, Rick---now that I drill down into the PHM's exploded diagram, I see the accel pump diaphragm. The rebuild kit only includes o-rings and gaskets, including the a-p diaphragm gasket, but not a diaphragm itself. But now that I get into the Dell'Orto site a bit further, I see that the small ac...

No Diaphragms on R90S Dell'Ortos

Carb slides were stuck and there is a lot of thick varnish in the float bowls. Looks like I will be ordering the rebuild kits for the Dellortoes. I just finished my Dellortos and while the rebuild kit has many of the gaskets you probably will need the metal washers too. I also changed the floats, ne...

Hmm--I hadn't tried a magnet.

Hmm--I hadn't tried a magnet. I just assumed from the porous texture and absence of visible corrosion after decades of exposure, that it was nonferrous.

Go with "H" speed-rated tires

Go with "H" speed-rated tires on your airhead if you have choices available in the size you want. V-rated tires are for use at high speeds (up to 149mph), and are somewhat stickier/softer than H-rated tires. H-rated tires are rated OK up to 130mph, they'll last longer (sometimes, a lot lon...

Very, very nice---from 200

Very, very nice---from 200 miles and 3ft, (distance to Chicago and eyeballs to monitor) I see no need for a repaint anytime soon. Looks even better than at the PO's garage, with the wash/wax/buff, a fresh set of tires, and the 'roo-bars removed.

The engine designs changed

The engine designs changed substantially between the /2 and /5 series motorcycles. I have not ridden a R60/5, but the 750cc and, a bit later, the 800cc, BMW airhead engines were reputed to be the smoothest of their generations. The /5 series pre-dated the start of my motorcycling history, but it's b...
