Re: What options for identifying a loud tic in left cylinder

It's a good way of giving yourself nightmares. Maybe after many years of different bikes, one learns the different sounds but, to begin with it's like a bump in the night - what's that!!

Re: R90/6 slipping in low gear

Presumably you've checked the clutch plate thickness? What about the teeth in the rear wheel that engage with the final drive, are they worn out?

And best of luck to all other long-term projects that we'll get around to one day.

Congratulations, Charlie.

Re: Front Earles fork setting..

"for sidecar operation, the top of the shock should be attached to the lower hole to increase the stiffness" Surely using the lower hole just raises the suspension? This will resist the extra weight and the weight transfer when cornering a sidecar but it doesn't stiffen the suspension. Pre...

Re: R75/6 rear brake adjustment/maintenance

I hope this isn't the cause, because it's an expensive fix. I fitted a spare wheel with trials tyre to my 75/7 with trials sidecar and found the rear wheel wouldn't turn. I slackened off the brake adjuster and finally the wheel would turn but made an odd noise. It turned out that corrosion had force...

Re: Front shock absorber bent

Happened to me too recently. I heard a strange noise and stopped to look and found the front unit at a strange angle. Turned out the upper part had unscrewed, so put it together (it was quite an effort to get a spanner on the shaft while pushing down the shroud, by the side of the road) and tightene...

Re: Knobby tires for R50..

My Dad was in MTBs (Motor Torpedo Boats) in England in WW2. The boats were wooden, easy to build, cheap and cheerful to run and repair. E boats, the German equivalent, were techically sophisticated, needing specialist operation and maintenance, which became difficult as the war progressed. The R 75 ...

Re: Projects!!!

You want a well-worn BMW? Try these, when I realised my son wasn't interested and I needed the space, I collected the four bikes I'd used for work and cannibalised slowly to keep the next one going. All have done 250,000 miles + (there's another one, a rolling chassis, just out of shot.) They sold f...

Re: Mikuni for R27

Have you checked this site? https://bmw-einzylinder.de/forum/index. ... ic=21601.0

The thread is about Mikunis on R27s, you might need a translation website as it's in German but they mostly speak (or write) English too.

Re: Need advice on what direction to take my R 50

I would love to restore a /2 but it seems like a lot of people think they have solid gold to sell. I see so many "barn find"s with price tags far in excess of what I am willing to pay because I know the cost of total restorations both to make things shine and to make a bike run right. May...
