Davida Jet DOT Approved Helmet

The Davida Jet is not a pudding helmet, but it is open-faced and DOT approved. And looks good with a pair a French aviator goggles. :-)

I think they're pretty rare.

I think they're pretty rare today, even through they built more than 12,000 of them. I've also never seen one in person. Check out Jeff Dean's page on the R24 at http://bmwdean.com/r24.htm It was the first post-war BMW, the only one without a rear suspension, and was only built 1948-1950. Jeff notes...

From what I've seen, they

From what I've seen, they were on some models or model years and not on others. I've used mine so seldom, I don't think it's worth changing to one with the choke. And if the bike is running well, don't fix it! :-)

The carb ticklers simply push

The carb ticklers simply push down the floats so the float bowls can fill. Typically, they need it when the bike has been sitting for a while, either because one shut off the petcocks before turning off the engine to deliberately empty the float bowls or because of evaporation of the gas in the bowl...

Well, the other things under

Well, the other things under the cover are the magneto and engine timing stuff. But my personal mantra is "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". So if there doesn't seem to be a timing problem, I'd just give it all a visual check but leave them alone otherwise.

Or put a GPS on it and go for a 10-20 mile ride. The odo function is quite accurate.

The one I have and like a lot

The one I have and like a lot is from Bob van Farowe. It's similar to the old Brown sidestand. Very well made and easily deployed sitting on the bike. Bob has a small machine shop. His contact details are: Bob Van Farowe 2792 24th Ave. Hudsonville, MI 49426 USA tel. 01-616-896-8469 Calling works bes...

2016 Motorado Classic Motorcycle Show, Eldorado, NM 6/19/2016

The 5th Motorado Classic Motorcycle Show will be held in Eldorado, NM (outside of Santa Fe) on Father's Day, June 19th. It's a pretty good show, with lots of old bikes. My favorites are the classic dirt bikes (Bultaco, Penton, Jawa, Husky, etc.). It's a wonder that any still exist, considering the w...
