I think they're pretty rare today, even through they built more than 12,000 of them. I've also never seen one in person. From what I've seen, they were on some models or model years and not on others. I've used mine so seldom, I don't think it's worth changing to one with the choke. And if the bike is running well, don't fix it!

The carb ticklers simply push down the floats so the float bowls can fill. Typically, they need it when the bike has been sitting for a while, either because one shut off the petcocks before turning off the engine to deliberately empty the float bowls or because of evaporation of the gas in the bowl...

Well, the other things under the cover are the magneto and engine timing stuff. But my personal mantra is "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". So if there doesn't seem to be a timing problem, I'd just give it all a visual check but leave them alone otherwise.

Or put a GPS on it and go for a 10-20 mile ride. The odo function is quite accurate.
