The advancer was pretty

The advancer was pretty gummed up. I took it apart and cleaned it properly. The spring tension was also adjusted all the way out, which was probably the problem with that. Meanwhile, I discovered warped carb mount flanges during carb rebuilds. Looks like I'll be spending some time with a stack of 18...

Excellent, thanks guys.

Excellent, thanks guys. Sounds like I did it all correctly. It takes more than 3K-ish RPM to get the F mark in the window, though. More like 5K, judging by the sound of it.

That doesn't address the symptoms I'm dealing with, though. I'll be doing some more homework over the weekend.

Kurt, I'm not sure what you

Kurt, I'm not sure what you mean by timing the magneto independently. The mark on the rotor was in proper position with the mark on the flywheel. I also don't know what abriz is. I'll study that manual. This thing is unlike any other bike I've worked on. I'm probably having a hard time grasping this...

Need some engine tuning help

1968 R60/US. I installed a new coil and condenser, taking off the magneto in the process. I checked and gapped the points and set the timing. It's a little advanced at idle but the F mark is centered in the window at revs. Also installed new plugs, properly gapped. Problem is, now it's missing a lit...

I have the "deluxe" breadloaf

I have the "deluxe" breadloaf Denfeld with the springs. It's intended to mount on the fender. That said, I borrowed a set of brackets from a friend so I could fab a pair. And then I noticed some problems. His wrecked seat is on the left, mine is on the right. http://scooterracer.com/funpix...

Denfeld mounting brackets needed

I have the springed pillion seat for my R60 but no brackets to mount it. Anybody have a set available or a lead on where I can get some? Benchmark Works does not sell the brackets separately.

Groovy, thanks for the

Groovy, thanks for the replies. That's an interesting way to go about it. I'm used to carbs with levers that either obstruct the air inlet or open an additional fuel path from the bowl to the venturi. If I understand correctly, these carbs allow me to intentionally flood the bowl and make it overflo...

The little buttons on the carburetors

I have a new-to-me 1968 R60/US. This is my first vintage BMW. It runs fine and I have been enjoying it. The starting procedure is interesting, as there isn't a choke on the carbs. Instead, I push these little buttons and I see gas flowing through the clear inline fuel filters. What do those little b...

Very nice! Vapor blasting

Very nice! Vapor blasting will give similar results on cases and also seals the surface, which makes it easier to clean in the future.

Powder or paint?

Reassembly

Macfly, why not do the reassembly yourself? I have restored a couple motorbikes and can testify that doing the final assembly and tuning for the first test ride is by far the most rewarding part of the process. Much like you, I didn't do my own body and paint work but I did the engine rebuild (two-s...
