Re: 10-40 Oil

I agree with a Schrader , I wouldn’t use it. For the price of a few quarts of oil I’d stay with Valvoline Vr1 40 wt. Your vintage engine is too valuable to risk unnecessary wear.

Re: Final sidecar gears

George, Thanks so much for the very thorough & informative explanation of sidecar set up. All important & critical knowledge necessary for correct & safe sidecar operation. I learned much of this over time. I didn’t want someone just beginning to set up there rig to go to the expense of buying price...

Re: Final sidecar gears

I have an R69S with a Steib S500 sidecar. Initially I installed the recommended 26/6 rear drive. For me it was way too low geared. I then bought & installed a 27/7 ratio rear drive & I love how it works. I can walk away from just off idle & cruise at 65 all day. Also I have the stock gearbox which w...

Re: Slinger service cost

I have been following this thread on cleaning slingers and want to ad my thoughts as well. A few years ago I had two R69S engines that needed the slingers cleaned. As an average amateur home shop mechanic I was too intimidated to do this myself so I called around to several shops and people I felt w...

Re: Easiest way to add images and files

Thanks for the explanation on posting images. One question is that when I post one picture that's fine but I can't seem to post a second picture ?

Re: So where do you live and ride?

Mal, Like many things in life sometimes things get put aside by work, marriage, children, divorce and mortgage payments. OK, I've been through all that and that is what took 38 years. I started the restorations about three years ago. I have a better picture with the original tank. I also included a ...

Re: So where do you live and ride?

My favorite bike to ride is my 1952 R67/2. I bought it non running but very complete forty years ago. Just finished the restor...

Re: Davida Helmets

I have a Davida pudding bowl helmet I have for riding around the small town I live in. Don't care about DOT approval, it seems fine to me. My state doesn't require a helmet, but I always wear one. I also recently bought a BMW helmet that is not DOT approved, I love this one as well. DOT to me is mor...

Re: R69S flywheel

Thanks so much, this is all useful information. It seems BMW used many different flywheel configurations through the years. Several different diameters and weights. What is the advantage of a lighter weight flywheel ?
