What I would worry about is the spigot on the slinger, these usually “lock” into the inner diameter of the plug effectively giving it a snug place for it to sit. Otherwise you rely on only the 2 slinger screws to hold it.

Check with Brent Hanson, or vintage Beemer parts or Scotty’s’ or Max, anybody that rebuild cranks, they MIGHT have some sitting around

I have experienced the same, sloppy piston clearance, and wide ring gaps and bad valve sealing will contribute to this.
