So, what do you think?

Presumably your question is not just rhetorical? I think you should sell off your basket case 1956 R69 to someone who will do a "museum" grade restoration, and buy a easier, more complete BMW that's less desirable, perhaps an R60 or R69S? A query about R68 headlamps was posted. R68 are the same as c...

Bing from post '55 to fit pre '55?

Is it possible to modify the flange on a 24mm Bing carb from a post '55 BMW twin such that it can fit the valve head on a BMW twin from '36-'54 and still use the air intake tubes from the earlier motorcycle? Plunger twin 24 and 22mm carbs are hard to find in usable condition?

Which would you buy...

Lots of good advice here; I'm sure you'll make the right decision. I always used to ride R50 and R51/3. I always thought R69S and R68 were just designed to be flipped to make money. When I get to motorcycle heaven, and everything is available brand new the first one I'll buy will be a '55-'57 R69, t...

Heinrich pointing..

There is a two piece bracket that you seem to be missing, that attaches to the motorcycle frame and the two threaded tappings you mention. The front end of the tank just rests on the rubber cushion that also seems missing, and the rear of the tank rests on the dual seat typically used with this tank.

The cap...

...that your testing is a resister cap of the type used after about 1960, originally made with a metal cover used for radio interference suppression. The metal cover has been lost on your example. The non resister cap used before that time is also brown plastic (?bakelite), did not have the metal co...

"Mixed parts"

If you have your original head plate, it should mention Baujahr and Baureihe, and if it's a 1955 production, both terms will be stamped "1955"...single cross spokes are clearly correct for 1955, but double cross seem to start to show up in 1956 AFAIK, and same applies to front fender brace. It's har...

Hard question, but...

...I have an early R50 with sidecar tranny (no "S" mark) that was the stock early R50 solo tranny: I can't tell the difference from a late R50/2 with solo tranny! Also, I have an R69S-Special with THE FACTORY CORRECT SOLO GEARBOX for that model, with a 26:6 ratio final drive: it's horrible to drive ...

The reflector on...

...the Waffen SS 862 plate was used on the earlier post war KS601, and maybe (?) the K600. I'd guess you can still get one from the Zundapp folks?

...I think that's a REALLY early bike, maybe an early 1955! Do you see the chrome plated accessory hole round head machine screws on top of rear fender? I think they only used them for a few months in early production, and yer hardly ever see them still in place. As for color, a repaint, isn't that ...
