Re: EARLES VS US FORK

Thanks flyingtpot, much appreciated. As much of a nerd as he was, Dad was all about the 'top end' so probably didn't change the gears! Forgot to write....My sincere condolences on your your Father's passing. It is kool that the motorcycle has passed on to you to preserve and ride. Being that i...

Re: Only modern tires from now on....

Thanks. I looked at the Avons, but choked a bit on the price. I believe the Bridgestones Battlax are at least as high-tech and have one on my K-bike, so it was a no-brainer. Good looking, too. I decided to stagger and go with a smaller front as I didn't want the HD/sidecar look. Will lyk! I hope the...

Re: Only modern tires from now on....

Ended up ordering Bridgestone Battlax B46s in 100/90-18 front and 120/80-18 rear. I'll post pics with them on, once I get them mounted and the fenders installed:

Re: EARLES VS US FORK

Thanks for your input. This may very well have been my father's experience after switching to US. He didn't want to go back. Thanks for the other tips. I'm looking at new tires right now, and considering a modern 110/90 18 which many have said is a real leap forward. I'll find out about my gear rati...

Re: EARLES VS US FORK

Nice looking 69US! Looks like you have the low bars, which is what my dad went to, as well. Love the 2 into 1! Good point about on the stand vs. off - thanks. CR I’ve owned several of each type over the last 30+ years, and the only one parked in my garage for the last 12 years is my R69US. To me it’...

Re: Only modern tires from now on....

Geez, nothing good ever lasts! I'm considering these Shinkos as an alternative. I understand they took over Yokohoma's technology: https://www.amazon.com/Shinko-712-Bias-Rear-Tire/dp/B007JNXI2S/ref=sr_1_6?dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9._iCf_Qduiap4Fr8K4DAd3isG1p6zyUIPu_28jqMzNByBNw21Cb4D3ylgG4ZjFkkKHKMXjgU_sq7JiQ...

Re: EARLES VS US FORK

I have and have compared both types and found the US fork can be a little finicky if it is not set up perfectly. You have a better feel for the road as well. The Earles fork can be a little stiff and sluggish and seems to absorb road imperfections better. They both have positives and negatives, I t...

Re: EARLES VS US FORK

You should also add why the Earles forks were introduced in the first place. They were all the rage on the race track, not for sidecars but solo bikes. BMW introduced them first on their racing machines. Only later they came on the normal bikes. The Earles fork is definitly stiffer sideways, what m...

Re: EARLES VS US FORK

The Earles fork was dropped for a few reasons, it was expensive to make, quite heavy, and it's main advantages were for sidecar work, where it absolutely excels. Seems these were bound to disappear as telescoping became ubiquitous and BMW needed to keep up with what were probably more nimble forks ...

Re: Only modern tires from now on....

Going to replace the 45+ year old tires on the R69S my dad left me, and am really grateful you sharing this post. Are you still loving these tires? Have you found any alternatives you are considering next time?

Thanks
