Re: Steering Head Bearings - Upper Inner Race

All of the items mentioned are exactly what I was hoping to hear. The bike is a 1974 R75/6. The same steering stem is used on many later models. The outer races were pulled with a Kukko puller I rented from Hans at BMWHUCKY.COM ($10 rent / $100 deposit). Anyway, they are in as of last night. A littl...

Steering Head Bearings - Upper Inner Race

Upper inner race "should" just tap down onto the "interference fit" area on the upper part of the stem. Mine will not go down far enough with the hook spanner or by tapping a punch or by tapping a socket / driver. Freezing the stem does not get me enough clearance. These are the ...

Re: 1984 R80 G/S Steering Head Bearings

FYI - Regarding CycleWorks - I ordered 1-8-2024 and received 1-25-2024. Still going strong.

I'm in the upper South Carolina area if anyone needs to borrow.

Re: Carburetor cleaning

Just did mine with a bucket of Berryman Chem-Dip to get the heavy stuff off and then a few rounds in the ultrasonic using 4:1 Simple Green Pro HD. Very happy. Blow out passages as soon as it comes out of the ultrasonic while it is still warm. At this point you are clean but not polished. If you want...

Re: Steering Damper Handwheel / Knob Configurations

Again, thanks for taking the time to pass on the info you have. Thanks to Chuck, I have another variant to add to my list - 3 solid diamonds. I am going to resolve myself to the fact that there is obviously no one correct knob for a restoration. But I will keep my eyes out for one of the white-trimm...

Re: Steering Damper Handwheel / Knob Configurations

FYI - just to give insight to my confusion - within the North American brochure 2 different versions are shown. Crazy.

Re: Steering Damper Handwheel / Knob Configurations

I appreciate your time and responses. I hope to get to a judging event at some point and find out a judges opinion.

Steering Damper Handwheel / Knob Configurations

I'm restoring a 1974 R75/6 and looking to install the correct handwheel / knob for the damper. I know the new replacements are all black and taller and require the longer bushing and a spring. They look good and shine, but my direction with this project is "original and worn" over "re...
