Re: wiring question re. starter protection relay

airhead wiring is pretty basic. The catch with them the complicated "ignition switch". The Germans and the Italians tried to pack too much in the headlight shell. You ever take a good look at the switch on the '73 r60? Probably not, there's no easy way to get it out. And if you do there is...

Re: wiring question re. starter protection relay

I'll just wire in a simple relay for the starter system. I've done many bikes from scratch. The starteer protection seems to be a complicated piece for a simple need.

wiring question re. starter protection relay

I'm bringing a '73 r60/5 back to life as a rider and I have heard it run. So next step is to straighten out the botched wiring. I'm leaning toward just stripping it and doing a quick simple wire loom. The issue is the SPR. has anyone ever just eliminated this. All it does that I can see is stop the ...

final drive / drive shaft

Motors, and running gear I can work on. But I've never touched the beemer final drive. I am bringing a r60/5 back from the dead to be a cosmetically original rider. (But some of what you don't see may be a hybrid of what ever I have lying on the shelf. don't look too close) She started for the first...

Re: Battery for R75/5 sealed or not. Opinons?

One thing to consider, if you are the guy that lets the bike sit for long periods on a maintainer type charger. (battery tender) Over time, the wet battery can boil dry. No big deal if you check it. But it is one more thing to keep track of. I have also lost track of how many mufflers I've seen with...

Re: twist grip not right

This is my first beemr, but I have repaired, rebuilt and /or restored many British bikes, a few Jap and a couple Italians. It's always interesting and sometimes frustrating to see how much has been mucked up over the years by DPO's. Since it is my first bmw, I can't just look at something and know i...

Re: twist grip not right

I have a brass chain wheel, EME shows this as being for a /2.

Maybe this is causing the binding?

Re: twist grip not right

if I just hook up one cable, I get full movement. but with both cables it rough, and extremely hard to turn.

I can work both cables with pliers and get smooth pulls.

The only thing I can figure out is wear in the teeth somewhere???
