Re: Vintage purchase advice please

I would make sure the bike is mechanically sound. A bike that just needs a lot of hands on; cleaning, polishing, etc. I would avoid any bike that needs high dollar parts. The correct Bing carbs, new or used are outrageously expensive. A set can cost you as much at $3000. Ensure the motor, trans and ...

Re: Rare 1952 BMW R68 ISDT for Sale

Mecum states that this bike is a "Very rare ISDT race ready--Gelandesporte." If this was a replica, Mecum would list it as a replica.

Re: 1959 BMW R50 Top Speed

Let me clarify. My R50 runs great at all speeds with very little vibration. It's one of the smoothest bikes I've owned and as smooth or smoother than my 2016 R1200GSAW, 2004 R1150GS, 2004 Ducati ST3, 1996 R1100RT and 1996 K1100LT. But all of those bikes have tachometers and some run at higher RPMS. ...

Re: 1959 BMW R50 Top Speed

Kurt....not at all. I'm a mechanic, so the clutch is not slipping. I do understand that this is a 63-year-old bike with all the issues associated with the metals used during that period. I think Bill said it best with "In top gear the engine can't pull enough rpm to hurt anything." Thats p...

1959 BMW R50 Top Speed

Earlier this year, I purchased a 1959 BMW R50 from a good friend of mine that no longer can ride the bike due to health reasons. The transmission is the S solo, and the rear drive is a 25/8. About 700 miles ago, the motor was rebuilt by Bench Mark Works with new bearings and pistons before closing f...

Changing Speedometer Glass and Chrome Bezel

My 1959 R50 has a dent in the bezel and distorted glass. Vintage Beemer Motorcycle Parts sells the bezel and seal, and the glass. The bottom rim of the bezel is above the top the headlight bucket, so looks like you can remove the bezel and glass without removing the speedometer by simply prying the ...
