Re: Low oil pressure - im looking for clues

Im adding the following, for the folks like the one above this post, who might learn something from my bad experiences. The shop's mechanic suggested the following, after listening to my saga: -drain the oil into a clean pan - look for bronze dust, that might point to connecting rod wear, although h...

Re: Low oil pressure - im looking for clues

It occurred to me that this topic needed to be updated after what I learned yesterday. I re-visited the dealership where I bought all of my parts and explained my oil pressure saga to the parts department rep. We reviewed all of my orders over the last year, and part numbers. When I finished, he ask...

Re: Low oil pressure - im looking for clues

The oil light in the dash was not lit because I have the gauge installed where the switch should be. So, no signal there. I have to replace the switch, but in the meantime, the actual gauge value is certainly more informative than the low pressure warning. I'd rather see an actual metric reading tha...

Re: Low oil pressure - im looking for clues

It is time for an update. I managed to complete the task of re-attaching all of the wiring in my custom loom- this enabled me to run the starter motor, in the hopes of verifying oil pressure. I have the pressure gauge still attached, and with the spark plugs removed, and no gasoline present anywhere...

Re: Low oil pressure - im looking for clues

I heated the threaded area of the spring's outer cylinder with a heat gun, it takes a while as there is alot of metal there. Then, I clamped vice grips on the non threaded end, because I heard that the middle area can collapse. To break any thread lock material, I tapped the end of the vice grip wit...

Re: Low oil pressure - im looking for clues

I'll answer the above post first, then move on. Thanks for the long post, everything helps! I purchased a new valve spring - it is visually identical to the original, which has not even changed in color. The compression force is the same, perhaps slightly firmer, so I have replaced it anyway. I put ...

Re: Low oil pressure - im looking for clues

Had the experience of the oil pressure relief valve failing/coming apart causing oil light to come on at idle. Its a rare failure but it happens. Are you referring to the piston and spring affair located next to the timing chain? I have inspected that, it looked clean and in working order. I am swa...

Re: Low oil pressure - im looking for clues

So, I'll spare you all of the usual tear down joy, and just say that I have reached the oil pump tonight. Nothing abnormal to be found along the way, this is the second time I have ever done it and it went twice as quick as previous. I strapped the nose of the crankshaft with a come along, to preven...

Re: Low oil pressure - im looking for clues

I have moved the motorcycle from the cold garage to the warm(er) basement. I will be doing work on this until the oil pump has been inspected or I know more. As of right now, I have the drive shaft bolts out, but I need to lift the frame to pull the rear wheel, also to remove the mufflers to get the...

Re: Low oil pressure - im looking for clues

Not offended actually.
My disassembly to the oil pump has begun, I have managed to remove the air filter box, battery and tray, along with having to disconnect alot of wiring that was sitting in the seat tray.
