Re: Rear Shock Diagnosis and Recommendation

When the front shocks on my '67 gave up at around 75K miles, I replaced them with adjustable shocks from Ikon. They work well and the company is responsive to questions. You can check them out here: https://www.ikonsuspensionusa.com/

Re: Carbs keep overflowing R60/2

When I come home from a ride, I put the bike on the center stand and turn off the petcock, then let the bike idle until the engine dies. Every /2 I've owned, starting in 1967, has had this leaking characteristic.

Re: Air tubes for 1959 R60

I had the rusty original tubes for my R69S rechromed thirty years ago and they still look good. In fact, the re-chrome has lasted longer than the original.

Re: Front shock

Several years ago, something similar happened to me on a trip from LA to San Jose. The shop I use had replaced the front shocks a couple of months before the trip and apparently used no threadlocker. Somewhere near Santa Maria, the right front shock came apart at the bottom, not the top, and there w...

Didn't the R50S have a fender emblem, or is that Danny's doing again?

Something doesn't compute

Blue Moon certainly should be able to determine from their supplier where the speedometer was made. It would surprise me if they had not already asked this question. They are a well-established company. What kind of return or warranty do they offer?

The only repop fender rack

The only repop fender rack that I know of is this one , sold by Danny Vu on eBay under the seller name bluemoonscooter. It looks like a stainless copy of the original Denfeld rack, which was favored by many when the bikes were new. Danny's stuff is generally well regarded and I have found him to be ...

eBay

I would start with a search on eBay. There are several vintage parts sellers who offer a wide range of parts. Under motorcycles go to parts and accessories and search on 'BMW R51/3 hub.' Sooner or later, you are likely to find what you need.

A very common complaint

Take Kurt's advice and eliminate the possible causes that he mentions. Then, if you explore past threads, you'll find a lot of discussion of this problem with grooved surfaces ("rain grooves"). It is most pronounced with tires that have a linear groove that goes all the way around the circumference ...
