Re: Fuel filter

Thanks, Kurt. I should have started there! Isolation has fogged my brain.

Fuel filter

I am replacing the fuel lines on my R69S and want to replace the 7mm in-line fuel filters. I haven't shopped for these for a long time. Does anyone have a brand and source to suggest?

Re: So where do you live and ride?

I live in Altadena, California, near Pasadena at the base of the San Gabriel Mountain range. I’m just a few minutes away from Angeles Crest Highway (picture 1), one of the better motorcycle roads in the Southwest, and, starting in the late sixties, I have spent a fair amount of time up there, alone ...

Re: 1959 R60

For what it's worth, I had my front fender painted and striped for about $150. There's a local body shop that I've relied on several times in the past, and as an established customer I asked them to shoot the fender during a slow time--after I had done some of the labor stripping away the old paint....

Is this a mint original?

Show of hands: How many think that this R60 on eBay is really "mint" and "original?" https://www.ebay.com/itm/1961-BMW-R-Series/393066199808?hash=item5b84923b00:g:lt4AAOSw8vJf086O I would have just passed it by, but it's being sold out of a motorcycle museum where, I assume, it was also billed as or...

Re: Davida Helmets

You are certainly right that nothing is guaranteed, even with the best helmet, but it's also true that a well engineered full-face will offer a lot more protection than a minimal helmet that was designed sixty or more years ago. I guess it depends on how much protection you think your skull merits. ...

Re: Davida Helmets

A pudding bowl is probably pretty good protection against bird poop, but I don't think I would expect much protection to my skull in a serious crash. But it's your head.

Re: Emblem on timing cover

Aftermarket roundels of different sizes were fairly common when the bikes were current. I still have a pair of cufflinks and a badge for a baseball cap squirreled away somewhere. (Don't ask why I have cufflinks! they're not something I would ever be likely to wear!)

Re: Emblem on timing cover

That has to be an add-on. I've been messing with /2s since the sixties and yours is the only one I've seen.

Re: Long Engine Warm Up ‘55-‘69

I live in a warm climate where it almost never drops below freezing. My R69S is ready to go in a couple of minutes. I start it, and by the time I've put on my gear I can be on my way with little or no stumbling.
