Re: Just Shaping a Milestone

Thanks for your sympathy guys. The good news is that I was slowing down to make a turn, only going about 20 mph when I dumped, so there was only minor damage to the bike.

Re: Just Shaping a Milestone

The day after my post the front brake locked up and I dumped, breaking a hip. I've been in a wheelchair recovering since then, and have not been able to do anything on that bike (or the others). I have just gotten the ok to put weight on my leg so I can get up and walk around. I will be able to chec...

Re: Is this normal? Kickstarter shaft movement

Micha:

The MAX BMW parts fiche shows a flange (no. 17) which appears to be also a bushing that the shaft runs in. If that is worn out it is probably what caused your seal to fail.

Re: Anyone read Russian?

My understanding is that the Russians captured large cashes of equipment, including scores of BMW motorcycles and sidecars, when they defeated the Germans at Stalingrad, and that is where they got the templates for Ural to duplicate. That did not occur until February 1943, which is not consistent wi...

Before you do anything see if you can't get Vetch to weigh in on this. Send him a private message if you can.

Re: Sudden loss of Power R65. No GEN Light

Sometimes it's the simple stuff. Check the voltage regulator and the wiring. I once had a loose wire that kept the battery from charging on my first R75/5. Took me forever to find it.

Re: Which oils do you use

In the engine of my R75/5, I run Valvoline fully synthetic 20W50 in the summer months and switch to 10W40 in the winter. I drain the oil in November or December but don't change the filter. In late March or April I put in a new filter with the new summer oil. In the gearbox, drive shaft and final dr...

Re: Sparkplug issue

It could be something stupid like the choke staying on, or putting its self on while riding. The fouled plug look like it is way too rich. Is it oily? Or just carbon? Just carbon suggests too much fuel too little air. An oil fouled plug would likely be oily to the touch. BTW Higher numbers on plugs ...

Re: Oil Leak from Kickstarter Shaft (R51/3)

Kurt: I am going to have to disagree with you on viscosity. Viscosity is a scientific measurement of a fluid's resistance to flow. The viscosity of water is 1.0. Fluids thinner than water, like alcohols and air, have viscosities in decimal points. Thicker fluids have larger numbers. Double numbers, ...
