Re: What's the bike?

The tank is an R45 - R65 police tank for the dual-shock bikes. The R45 was never imported to the States, but it was available in Canada. But the tank could have been easily added afterwards to either model, as the one below was to this R65LS.

Re: side cover color on /5

All /5 toaster tank era sidecovers had black stripes EXCEPT for the Blue bikes, which had blue stripes. The driveshaft side covers were often lost when the rubber band holding them on the bike broke, so I would expect that it was very easy to get a cheap used set off another bike, and most likely th...

I have used this a few times with excellent results. Despite what it says in the description, you Will need to apply a clear gloss coat over the top.

Re: What model is this speedo for ?

From Snowbums website. The housing & gauges indicate a 1974-only gauge cluster. The ratio indicates an R90/6. So 1974 R90/6. The lenses have been replaced on this piece however - the glass should have white rings around the rim.

Re: EARLES VS US FORK

I’ve owned several of each type over the last 30+ years, and the only one parked in my garage for the last 12 years is my R69US. To me it’s much more nimble a ride. But to each his own. I saw some comments about the forks being too long, but I’m not sure if they mean ‘in use’, or parked on the cente...

Re: OLD MAN SLINGER RANT!!

Thanks Chuck, for getting that out there. As another old timer who started riding BMWs in 1971, I can tell you that I don’t think I even heard the word ‘slinger’ until the 1990s. Now everyone asks you if you’ve ‘done the slingers yet’ like it was an oil change. When you take an engine completely apa...

Re: Twin Instrument Headlamp bowl.

I still remember the first time I held a Rausch headlight bucket in my hands back in the 1990s. I got it in a trade with a fellow collector. I was truly surprised by how crude it was inside - and by its weight! That was well before all the copies started coming out in the last 10-15 years - few peop...

Re: Harry Buck's R5

Yes it is. I could not remember the name of it to save my life. I only saw it once back in the 1990s. When I asked Harry what it was, he told me. He also explained why it was unique and 1 of 1. I had never heard of it before - or since really. It was only when I overheard the news about a bike being...
