Re: 12v battery replacement

Hi Ziggy- I removed the lead plates and cell partitions from a dead 6v and use this 12v battery, to retain a stock appearance. The headlight uses a reflector from an R65, along with a 12v halogen bulb, which is on whenever the bike is in use. Been using the Vape a number of years, and have still not...

Re: Push rod length

Salis lists as ~24cm
Max lists as 243.5mm

Perhaps Max measured a single pushrod and Salis measured a number of them, hence the tilde?

Re: Vapor blast wheel hub?

Hi Starklint- Vapor blasting the wheel hubs is a very nice way to clean up the wheel hubs, much more thorough, and less tedious, than doing a good hand cleaning. But wouldn't recommend doing it unless already disassembling the wheel for other reasons, as the time spent to remove/replace the bearing ...

Re: Is this a Heinrich fairing?

Hi Kurt- When were the Earles fork bikes called /4s? Back when the /5 was introduced, the bench racing consisted of a lot of speculation about the merits and faults of the new bikes, and also pondering how the postwar designations went from /2, to /3, jumped over the Earles, to the new /5. And so we...

Re: Is this a Heinrich fairing?

They might not have stamped #s on ones made in the post Earles era.
Here's a later one with a cut down windshield, out of fiberglass.
Heinrich? Dunno, it has no markings on it.

Re: Tickler

Both Salis and Max list it as "safety washer" with the same part#, ending in 262. I missed it first look, but went back cause it seemed it just had to be there. Brett, if you're being this diligent about your spares go ahead and source the part. Safer than finding out the hard way something wasn't c...

Re: Is this a Heinrich fairing?

I'd guess it's a Heinrich, if it's aluminum- Though it may be for a /5; the shape is a bit different from the Heinrich for the Earles fork era. (and a side note here- I wouldn't mind at all if we went back to calling the Earles era the /4, as many of us did when the /5 came out; postwar we had the /...

Re: transmission sidecar gearing

When I got the '60 R69 (pictured to the right) in the early '70s, it came equipped with the sport trans, marked so on the case, and showed no signs of having been r&r, (though of course it could have been) it had been a one owner, low mileage bike. When the s/c was found a couple of years later, sam...

Re: Bar End Flasher 6V FESTOON LED

Hi Adam-
What is the color like with your brighter led barend bulbs, does it come through the lens as amber?
Thanks-
