Re: Oil pan question

Hi Spidey- There have been a variety of larger capacity cast aluminum oil pans offered over the years; with a variety of capacities. The one on my rig measures 2" in height, and it holds one quart, the stock steel pan is about 1" in height and it holds a half quart; so in my case an extra ...

Re: Sidecar tonneau cover fitting

I replaced my tonneau cover maybe thirty years ago. Sourced the replacement from Stefan at Ideal Seitenwagen in Berlin, along with rubber bits and brake rebuild parts. He was a great resource, and was having reproduction sidecars produced in, I think, Poland at that time, maybe still does. Like Barr...

Re: Tach for ‘62 R69S #656872 ?

For clarity's sake, I was referencing the two sizes of studs mounted in the gear cover that the gen cover attaches to; Duane was probably referencing the various heads on the gen cover's captive nuts that attach to those studs.

Re: BMW 50/2 Dimmer switch wiring questions

Hi Blaster- As Tommy/Chris/Kurt are saying the magneto energizes the sparkplugs, period. The generator energizes the battery. The battery energizes the lights. When the battery is crap, the generator energizes the lights directly, and if not turning at sufficient rpm, the generator will not produce ...

Re: Tach for ‘62 R69S #656872 ?

Hi Thor- I'm seeing only one question, though I'm probably not totally awake yet... Do all chest covers ‘61 - ‘69 fit the same bolt pattern? Gather you are replacing the gen cover for one reason or another. All the Earles fork bikes have the same bolt pattern for mounting the gen cover. The earlier ...

Re: 2024 on an R27

When I got into running the MotoGiro, I mounted a Trail Tech speedometer, which uses a wheel sensor; simple, and quite accurate. But have found my preference is using the BMW's stock speedo/odo; for me much easier to read on the fly, and has also proven itself remarkably accurate. When stopping for ...

Re: Trip Meter won't reset

Hi Charlie-
By your description, it sounds like an integrity issue with the plastic pipes, or an obstruction in the reserve side of the petcock.
Don't like the idea of dashing about London with a spare fuel can strapped onboard, whether backstreets or the circular roads.

Re: Trip Meter won't reset

Hi David- My recollection is the tripmeter was incorporated on bikes destined for the US, though maybe not available in the earliest years of Earles bikes. (B&S also spec'd BMW to include things like passenger pegs/sidestand/benchseat/US bars for the US market) As Kurt said, the 1,44 speedo is f...

Re: Steib TR500 body dimensions

Well done, Kees- Your considerable efforts have certainly paid off beautifully; wonderful work! As for braking, my outfit has the original setup, with s/c master cylinder integral within the bike rear brake rod. It is a finicky system to keep in useful tune, but I want it to remain as original. Year...
