Re: R71 hot start problem

Your coil had a short. Condenser was not causing that problem. Sounds like you found the problem. Todd

Re: R71 hot start problem

Hi: I would try a new condenser. Your symptoms are exactly what happens when a condenser gets weak. Hidden behind the distributor body, often overlooked. Is it original? About 85 years old. I bet that will fix it. Todd

Re: Help with Identification of Chassis

The frame is a late EMW R35 from 1953/54. Made in East Germany. Note the red and white tank badge. The fenders are R12 Deco fenders. The motor appears to be early 70s /5. Can't tell about the forks from that photo.

Re: OLD MAN SLINGER RANT!!

I'm going to stick my neck out and venture an opinion. I believe that most of the trash found in your slingers happens in the first 500 or 600 miles with a fresh motor. Back in the early 90s I rebuilt a Harley motor. All new quality parts, professional machine work, scrupulously clean. A friend call...

Re: R51/2 Leaking Carb

Goro: The advice you have received so far is all good. Vech is correct about bent ears on float bowl tops. That is a must to check. An alternate way to help the float needles to seat is to find a drill bit that exactly fits the hole in the float bowl top and turn the bit slowly BACKWARDS from the to...

Re: Denfeld vs Pagusa?

Slash2: Pagusas were used on plunger bikes. There is also a pre-war version with script lettering. Denfelds were used on Earles fork bikes. Period. They were not "mixed up" Todd

Re: BMW R51/2 Hardy disk installation

Goro: If you have 5mm gap between the driveshaft flange and the Hardy disc, you may have a /3 driveshaft. Remove your driveshaft and stand it straight up on a table. It should measure 13 3/4 inch base to top of the flange. If it measures 13 5/8 inch it's a /3 driveshaft. That would account for the e...

Re: R51/3 clutch cable routing/adjustment

Vegtamr: /3 clutch adjust explained: The routing pictures 808 supplied were right on. The brown thing where the cable enters the transmission tab is a cable guide and seat. Check to see how close the release arm is to the Hardy disc. They often rub. loosen the clamp and rotate it slightly if necessa...

Re: Is it OK to use 14A 6V battery for R51/3?

[/size]Get a period correct empty battery box and a 5amp AGM battery from Mike at vintagebeemerparts These look correct and the AGM battery will last years without maintenance. These fit all BMWs, pre-war through early Earls bikes. IMG_0544.JPG The lid is larger than it looks in the photo. It fits ...
