Re: 1956 R50 first start

It has oil. Oiled the rods and rockers and ran for a few minutes with oil leaking out through the head. The right side has a stripped cover screw that needs extracting.

Probably shouldn’t run too long that way though.

Re: Valve Adjustment issue R50

Yes, thanks. I think they are a bit sunk. I can get to spec, but barely. I don't know if there are purpose made shims but I found M10 shim washers of all sizes.

Re: Valve Adjustment issue R50

Hello, I had purchased the new rods for an R50 from Salis. They are 24.2 cm. My old rods are about 24 cm. Two of the old ones were slightly bent. I used the two good ones on the exhaust valves and was able to get them into spec. The intakes are to spec but with very little room to increase the gap. ...

Valve Adjustment issue R50

Hello, I am making final adjustments on my '56 R50 and I have an issue with the left exhaust valve adjustment. The heads are newly rebuilt from Bob's BMW. The right side was already set to spec clearances. I have the engine at TDC on the compression stroke (left side) and the exhaust valve end is st...

Installing a 12 volt battery question

Hello,

I am finishing my 1956 R50 and I installed a 12 volt electrical system. I have the original 6V battery "tray". From anyone running on 12 volts, any recommendations/modification to hold a 12V battery?

Thanks,

D Frenia

Headlight Shell Holes BMW R50

Hello, I am finishing up my 1956 R50 and working on the electrical. I wanted to show my shell and verify the "holes". I realize my shell is probably from a later bike. I'm showing pics of the back and bottom. I will be putting on the bar end lights. Please help me confirm my holes! 1. The back sides...
