Yes, BMW did use slotted screws on the tank emblems, perhaps the reason being they were installed by hand very carefully rather than using a jig or fast assembly tool? I can well imagine hand installation of the badges after a tank has been painted and pinstriped being done by a careful skilled pair...

BMW very rarely uses slotted screws for any fasteners, must be an assembly line issue? St.

I can't see on your picture how the fairing is mounted. If I am correct, you should be able to gently pry the rubber seal between the fairing edge and the headlight to get a Philips screw driver on the headlight ring screw. So you shouldn't have to mount and remount the fairing to get into the headl...

Spectro 20w50 motorcycle oil.

Any 20W50 oil is fine as long as it has ZDP additives or is designated for motorcycle use. St.

Also check the gray wire's position on the back of the ignition switch. 58. if it is accidentally plugged into the spare 30 plug (red), it will energize the circuit even with the key off. St.

First place I would look is the ignition switch. It is not hard to get a wire on the wrong pin.
Other than that, check the places the gray, and gray/black wires are plugged into, something may be off. Good luck, St.

Take a look at the factory relay, it may have the internal diagram printed or scribed on the side. St.

With the proper relay set up for a high current draw side, you could run an air compressor and use air horns. LOL St.
