Re: '73 R60/5 Stainless steel battery trays

The OM battery box I believe had the two threaded rods built into the tray, or am I thinking about /6 and /7 bikes? Many years ago when I worked as a car mechanic in the days of lead acid batteries, it was not uncommon for customers to come into the shop with rotted out trays and brackets. We had on...

Re: R60/5 won’t start has spark

Which digital system did you use? LOL, I myself HATE points and on my 78RS I installed a replacement system. Then I installed the new Wedgetail system and loved it! Problem is, the bike is gone, I wrecked it so I have only 5000 miles about of use on the W. I would loved to have run it 100K miles or ...

Re: /7 fuel tank

I looked at the tanks in Max's garage sale, I guess I hate to say you get what you pay for. While I moan about the aging out of airheads and the owners I find a lot of new people coming into the club restoring bikes for the first time and such. So, as the factory tanks are NLA, that leaves the after...

Re: Morris Mag Wheels

Sorry, I am going to butt in here and give you my two cents, LOL. Why do you want to convert to a rear disc brake? I have ridden my current 84 R80RT for forty years with a drum brake as I did my shot lived R90S. The drum works fine or at least it did for me. On the other hand, I had a 78 R100RS with...

Re: /7 fuel tank

Keep your eyes peeled in not only eBay but also the MOA market place, and airheads ads, tanks pop up for sale more than you think. Who knows, may the company making the reproduction tanks figured things out but, LOL, I am not going to gamble on buying one unless I get a guarantied return and free sh...

Re: Pinstriping next

Some of the great things about the fit and finish of BMW motorcycles used to be the hand work involved, pinstripe or R90S paint jobs. What ever, it was far classier than the OM stuff. St.

Re: Pinstriping next

I had both my RS and RT repainted the RT twice the RS once. Both times the pinstripe was clear coated over. No it doesn't give the 3D effect you get when done on top but, The second paint job on the RT, the stripes lasted close to 35 years, 190K miles of rough riding. Not to be a jerk, but I don't r...

Re: /7 fuel tank

Personally, I have not ordered one of the Indian tanks, my friend at the airhead shop did two. Sadly, he had issues of fitment with both tanks. One tank was for a master cylinder under the gas tank bike, in this case a /6. The tank when mounted rubbed on the master cylinder, there was no clearance. ...

Re: Steam cleaning engine block?

Oh you are correct, there are is a large number of techniques out there BMW owners have used over the years to keep their engines, transmissions and other aluminum parts clean or to restore. I have used several chemicals and bead blasting over the years but never steam. I would imagine it will do th...
