Re: Vape conversion (generator only)fuse question

I did exactly what you are doing and I put a fuse in as vape suggests. I would suggest putting the fuse inline.

Re: Side stand and foot peg finish

Bob, I do not own a R 90 S, but I back channeled to the experts and they said the stand was cad plated and the foot pegs were flash chrome. By “flash chrome” I think they mean “Matt chrome” but I am not 100% on that. They also said they use cad (if they can get it) today or silver zinc chromate if t...

Re: What is correct horn for R26?

If you are looking for a 100 point restoration, the owners manual that is available In our Library shows on page 31 of the PDF "Electric Horn Noris HE 6". I googled "Noris HE 6" and found some for sale! They are actually really cool looking! I don't have an R 26, but if I did I wold have one of thos...

Re: R50 rocker bearing shaft replacement

Looking at the workshop manual in our library https://vintagebmw.org/library_data/Wo ... R60S69.pdf on page 29 it says: .0004” to .0018”.

Hope that helps.

Re: R50 rocker bearing shaft replacement

Ken, Two questions will set your path; is there any play in the rockers on the shaft and have you taken them apart to measure them? If they are within spec there is no need to replace them. They are likely fine and if so I would put krytox in there and go on your merry way. I have only found a few s...

Re: Replacing final drive 1959 R60

Sorry, was out of pocket for a while. Any good welder can weld the final drive. Look at this article on the R 68 case repair that will be highlighted in the upcoming issue. I have welded various items. After welding I used a grinder to get it close, then sandpaper to get it perfect, but after the sa...

Re: R50 exhaust nut replacement

I went a different route for my R 50 S. I basically made a female flange that I was able to slip inside the nut and seat on a small lip on the exhaust. This allows me to remove the nut whenever I wish and seals great! Many miles and still great. Here is what I did: 1) I ground the flange down just e...

Re: 4 Speed Transmission Overhaul R60/2

Yes, .085 seems too much. I had the same type of measurement when I forgot the washer that goes between the kickstart gear and the bearing marked part #18 on this diagram https://www.bmwclassicmotorcycles.com/parts/all-parts/gearbox-input-shaft/ . Also note they have them in different thicknesses. I...
