Re: R51/3-carbs leakage and tuning issues

I always hold my floats under water to see if they float. If they do not they are cracked.

Re: R51/3 - R68 cable guides

Chuck,

Thank you. That is how I will run mine. I like your R68, that is the one I am restoring now as well.

R51/3 - R68 cable guides

Does anyone here know of the proper use of the two cable guides that bolt under the handlebar. I looked at my one plunger and it is hard to see how each cable would route through each one. Re: pannier bags?

I was looking at the cheap leather side bags on eBay (typically from India) and they have two leather straps on each. I was thinking I could just strap the leather straps around the rear rack but you could also make mounts cheap as well.

Re: strip to bare metal?

If your repainting you are spending the money so strip them. It’s not that hard! I had my powdercoater strip them for me. He used paint stripper and followed up with media blasting. It did not cost that much. Most paint shops do not want to strip as it’s not worth their time. I have found it in the ...

Question on shock cartridges

I just picked up an R50S and it has rear shock cartridges pictured below. I never saw shock cartridges like these. The rebound on them make me think they are gas shocks and there are no markings on them. I have not taken the fronts apart yet, but I am sure I will find the same cartridges up there. A...
