Hello,

Just moved back to PA from FL and having issues with 1973 R75/5 had since 2000.

Lubed brakes front end and when tighten spindle nut to over 20ftlb wheel won’t spin.

Was thinking need shims in bearing stack.

I am lost on bearing pre-load

I was thinking of taking it to a shop and have a pro rebuild.

Would like to hear what you folks think my issue is.

Thanks

John

Welcome to the forum! So, you've owned this bike since 2000 and this is the first issue like this? The bearing preload typically doesn't just change on its own. So you did some lubrication and now it doesn't turn? That's where I'd probably look first.

Thanks Mr. Schrader,

To be honest, I have not taken the stack apart and properly greased, I just shot grease in with the special grease gun fitting that inserts into wheel.

Tomorrow I will do a proper job and see what I find.

I've used those in-place greasers before...they shouldn't really change the preload on the bearings.
