Good Morning. What type of oil filter does a 1974 R60/6 takes ? I am reading the article posted previously but wanted to ask as well.

With Oil Cooler ? Or without ?

Hi,

What Bill sent you is the MAX BMW parts fiche for the R60/6. It's pretty handy to lookup parts need for your bike.

Below are the filter options for your bike, assuming you don't have the cooler kit installed: bottom arrow of the first picture (396), which is highly unlikely.

The 572 filter is NLA and has been replaced by the 572S.

Your next question will probably be, which filter is better. People find the split filter easier to install, especially with crash bars. Both filters work fine though.

Another site for parts is EME: https://www.euromotoelectrics.com/ Their search bar at the top is great as you only need the last three digits of the part number and it will return a list of parts with those three in it.

Thank you gentleman. Very helpful. Now I am reading about this $2000 seal concern to make sure I don't make that mistake.

The $2000 oil filter setup refers to the /7 and on configuration. The /5/6 setup was bulletproof...not sure why they changed it!

I will comment and write they changed it to save a few bucks in machine or parts. From a good design to a bad one but I guess given the cost savings over the entire line of bikes from 77 to 95 it was worth it to BMW. St.
