Vintage BMW Motorcycle Owners

First of all I’m a new member only been around for a few weeks. Thanks for letting this old guy hang with you guys and tolerating some of my newbie posts. If I am violating any rules or norms let me know. I in way want to cause any issues. Also sometimes my brain runs faster than my typing and articulating skills.
Well I just bought the bike weeks ago the PO purchased the bike in Kalamazoo Michigan around 1976. Rode it as a daily driver and relocated to the Indianapolis area. Stopped riding around 35 years ago due to major medical issues, parked it in a wood shed to the rear of his property that’s where I got it from. This picture is the PO saying goodbye to lot of fond memories the day we hauled it out.

Next set of photos are when I got the bike home feb 22. The next day feb 23 had the bike police inspected and to the BMV for title work. All documents in order on my way home with a big smile. Always glad when that process is completed I’ve been into old cars for years and know what issues you can run into. I once had an old Dream I purchased from an estate with a title and death certificate that had a typo oh boy what a hassle. Anyway I sent my serial number to the archives when it came back it was sold on Feb 22 same day I got the bike so my new title says purchased February 22 kinda neat ha.

The PO said the bike ran well when parked only issue he new of was the kicker would lock up every so often and he would put it in gear rock it a bit and start over. He drained the tank and carbs and put oil in the spark plugs holes. Tank looks great inside and it turns freely carbs are fairly clean inside.
I pulled the transmission and found the issue with the kicker. I think I solved the issue by welding a hardened extension on the spring in front of the kicker gear.

Started the disassembly discovery process, looks like tank and some of the frame has original paint. The fenders look to be sprayed with spray can repaint. The front fenders had lots or sanding and primer so it needs to be totally redone. The rear fender is still undecided on may try to blend in some places and see how it turns out.

Also pulled the pan and sump motor look fairly clean inside. I have made no decisions on motor yet about the top end or slinger service. But I did buy a complete gasket and seal set among other bits.
And I am an old hot rod guy.

Thanks Ken spent most of the winter down south at the Gulf relaxing. I was so anxious to get back in the garage. So I’m enjoying every minute and the weather is coming around too. Got some black single stage urethane on today. Looking pretty shiny
