Vintage BMW Motorcycle Owners

I'm slowly working on getting my 66 R27 running and have the fuel tank soaking with Evaporust. I removed the petcock and have a couple questions.

1. Is this original to the bike? It's a Karcoma and is stamped 482. The label plastic/cap is installed upside down and I'm unable to push the selector to the top position as it hits the tank.
2. I wiggled the two tubes that fit inside the tank off of the petcock. They were held in by some kind of goop. Can someone confirm what that stuff is?

Original would be an Everbest. I have a modern reproduction and it works well, no leaks, and it's simple to clean the internal filter. Bob's has a good write up of the petcock, supposedly the originals were prone to leak. The repro looks to be in stock at Vintage Beemer Parts.

Yes it a original part fitted frequently after Everbest petcock fails.

This it the part that BMW sold as replacement part in 70´s for both R27 & 60/2.

I bough Everest replicas at eBay, really cheap with all markings, the last fitted on my bike has 2 years working without any leak.

Only point I really dislike its screen filter that in some cases are not very good welded (fixed with tin soldering).

May also add another gasket between the tank and petcock to get more clearance for the petcock lever

Probably should check that you have sufficient threads if you add a gasket. I'm working on my R25/2 tank and in general, the amount of threads is not great. The coupler nut pulls the petcock and tank outlet stub together against the gasket. One thread is RH while the other thread is LH.

The guy who sold me an Everbest repro said they were rubber inside and would seal better than the original cork. However on this repro the flanges for connecting the tap to the tank and to the lower part with the fuel line connection are quite crude, and too irregular to properly accommodate the fiber washers. Perhaps therefor it was supplied with thicker rubber washers.
I corrected the flanges in a lathe and now the fiber washers fit.
Also on my NOS Everbest, there is a (cork) washer underneath the meshed fuel filter in the lower part. On the repro there was none so I put a fiber washer in to avoid leaks there.

The reproduction Everbests I've had didn't leak, but after sitting in the 'OFF' position for some time, it takes pliers to start the lever to move to 'ON'. Once you get some fuel coating the rubber seal inside, the lever moves quite stiffly, but OK. I've bent my lever trying to get it to move.
