Wixom fairing

I have a neighbor who just purchased a 1960 R69 with a Wixom "Cat Eye" fairing that is in good original condition. I believe he is going to sell the fairing if there is a market for it. Does anyone know about the level of interest for these fairings?

You don't see those much. I guess you have to be a fan of having everything covered...takes more work just to get back into the valve covers, etc. Here's another image on a bike that was sold:

I noticed that someone has drilled holes for the turn signals on the outside of the fairing. On the image above, the bar end signals did that. Seems like that might detract unless someone doesn't really care.

They do look kind if cool in a strange sort of way, particularly with the enduro bags. I can tell you from experience that stuff like that is a bear to pack and way expensive to ship, so keep that in mind when your friend makes a deal with someone.

Nostalgia time! That picture could be my first R69S, which I bought in '67 and sold in '77. I haven't checked in decades, but I think the fairing pieces are still in my brother's attic! The fairings (both pieces) appear on eBay from time to time and usually bring fairly high prices. Same for the Wixom bags. My bike was my sole transportation, rain or shine, and I sat behind that fairing for 103,000 miles. It provided excellent protection, but as has been pointed out, it complicated working on the bike. Many owners thought the combo was just butt-ugly. I didn't agree, but I would say that the Avon one-piece is a much better choice.

I've also sat behind a fairing for many 1000s of miles and I prefer it. However, the Avon on a /6 had to be modified to allow easy filter change. The Rickman on a /7 was much better. The 80RT (x3) fairing also had to be modified to allow filter change and, although an excellent fairing aerodynamically, it wasn't sufficiently robust to deal with the minor bumps normal in urban riding.

Now I ride a /2, the fairing I'd like is the one below, an Avonaire. However, Vech showed one that looks very similar in the thread about 'Dealer sticker' but it doesn't have the horizontal line which, I assume is to divide the fairing to allow work and also, there is no fairing below the cylinders. Maybe someone has cut it, does anyone know?

Finding a fairing for a /2 in Europe is not easy. Much as the oddness of the Wixom appeals, I think the cost of shipping is just too much.

For a few years I had a Vetter Windjammer III on my R69S--the same one that appears at right without the fairing. For a short time, Craig Vetter offered mounting hardware for the /2s. It was a real barn door, but very effective in long rides around the Southwest. For a time the photo of the bike below appeared on Vetter's website (which I think is no longer active):

I have the upper fairing on my bike. I couldn’t imagine running with that lower. Certainly not in any temperature over 70 degrees.

I have the same upper fairing as on your bike. I’m looking to find the rubber that went around the headlight. Mine was lost in a move. Also, what type of bags do you have and any source for them?
