1967 R69S restoration

This week a "new to me" 1967 R69S followed me home. The bike is currently not running with 50K miles on the odometer. It appears to have very good compression and spins freely. There is absolutely no history to the bike other than it was bought by the previous owner in 1979 with 28K miles.

With the milage and no history the only thing to do is open the engine and look around. I assume I will do the same for the transmission. The tank is in excellent condition and is red coated with fresh fuel.

I restored a 66 R60/2 about 5 years ago so Im familiar with most of the bike.

Like before I hope to document the restoration here for advise and comments.

Some custom "touches" but it should buff out just fine! :D

I agree. It's amazing sometimes to see all the modification to these old bikes. My intentions are to bring it back to stock. I found a new fender but Im still looking for a used seat. If anyone has one or knows where one is please let me know.
thanks

The top end came off easily with no real damage. It's obvious someone has been in there recently. Freshly honed with new rings. No lip or visible scaring. The numbers on the pistons indicate original sizes. The oil pan was spotless. I think we are off to a great start.

Nope. It's surprisingly easy to tear them apart. Being retired has its benefits.

It was a great weekend in the shop. The engine and transmission are out. Still very happy with all the findings.
