I used to have a 76 R75/6. Sold it too quickly and wanted an airhead again ever since I sold it.

I just picked up this R100/7. The fairing is supposed to be made by Avon.

I have not seen any pictures of one like this.

Question is: Would you keep it on and leave it or get rid of it? Is there any market for these fairings?

Hi, I rode a 1974, 60/6 with an older, rounder Avon fairing, as in the photo but different bike. At the time, I was on the bike 5 days a week, 50 weeks a year. In wind, snow, rain the fairing made life much easier.

People would say 'why do you ruin a lovely bike by putting a barn door on the front?' They didn't spend their life on a bike. It is heavy, it reflects some noise, it makes servicing a bit more tricky but you get used to it. I used to ride off-road with no problems and have been round a few race tracks.

I'm afraid the ones for sale on ebay.co.uk don't sell quickly and not for much (less than $150) but your bike will look different and, if you ride any distance, you'll be more comfortable.

One of the other things that I don't like about the full fairings with the lowers...including the RT and RS models...is what they do to effect the free flow of air around the cylinders. The 1000cc models put out more heat so it needs to be pulled away. The full fairings with lowers don't really help in the regard IMO.

A buddy had one on a r75 short wheelbase model a few years ago. Monza blue, which looked good. I thought that it’s rarity, made it somewhat special.

I think the paint scheme on yours looks good. You certainly won’t lose your bike in a parking lot.

What ever you like, it is your bike. Personally I love the RS and RT fairings and always thought the Vetter windjammer and similar fairings were ugly. That is my opinion I have a friend who replaced the R90S faring with a Vetter and loves it.

I have never had a heat issue with the lowers on the RS or RT, I ride on hot humid days in the summer in full gear and honestly, I sweat but I don't worry.

The only thing I can say for sure is that what ever fairing or windscreen you have on a bike, it should fit the bike with well designed hardware, and not interfere with the handling. My R75/7 had a Pacifco fairing on it that was a nightmare for mounting hardware, lights and turn signal wiring. The owner I bought it from kept the fairing and I rewired everything factory. I went to a handle bar mounted windscreen and got scared to death more than a few times by strange wind conditions screwing up the steering/handling. That was the reason the bike got traded for my 84 R89RT. Nothing is more beautiful than the RS or RT fairings on the 77 to 95 bikes. St.

It is a fairly rare fairing. Whether you like it or not is up to you. I've ridden trips of 5000 or more miles 25+ times. Some with a R90S Bikini fairing, some with an R100RS fairing and most with no fairing and low bars. I liked them all. With no fairing the wind takes some weight off your arms and the low bars take some weight off your bum. No fairing lets me see the road directly in front of the front tire. Above 85 mph the RS was more comfortable, otherwise there wasn't much difference. Depends on what you are comfortable with.
Fairings always look better to me when color matched to the bike, otherwise they tend to look like an afterthought.

The Avon and a couple of other fairings are certainly much better looking than the Vetter style fairings. A color matched fairing of this type would be my only other choice if I could not get a RS or RT fairing. St.

Someone went to Great Lengths to prepare that fairing for your motorcycle.
The correct installation, lower units and properly painted to match, enhance the motorcycle.
It IS your bike. Do what YOU like.
Personally, IF you do remove it, my recommendation would be to remove it carefully and save ALL hardware.....Store it properly and SAVE it for the next owner.
