Brown side stand question

My new to me, 1983 R100, came with a Brown side stand, which functions very well. I’ve refinished, as it had been scratched from years of use.

Does anyone have a recommendation, for adding a “ rubber tip” to the end, or foot part of the stand? I’m looking for one that fits properly.

I think adding a a durable tip would not only protect the new paint, but also, make it more stable, like when the bike is parked on a slope.

How about dipping it in Plasti Dip? It's the stuff one might use to put a rubberized handle on a pair of pliers or a screwdriver. I have a friend who put it on the wheels of his truck, so it must be pretty durable. And you can remove it by peeling it off.

That looks like a similar product to Plasti Dip. There are options!

Next time you are in a good size hardware store poke around, there may be a plastic/rubber do dad that may just do what you want. There are all kinds of plastic chair leg, cane tips, and so on. LOL, I scan the shelves often and am surprised at times to find just the think needed for a task in a part of the store I would never have thought to look. St.

Yeah, we still have a few “ real” hardware stores in the area. Good idea, thanks.

One other thing that has me stumped. The original rubber shifter boot was shot, so ordered new. I’ve attempted to install it, but I think I manhandled the new one, which also split. I have a second new one coming, and wonder if there is some type of procedure, to install it without splitting it?

My first attempt, I used petroleum jelly, applied to both the alloy shifter, and the inside of the new rubber pad.

I've done this before and don't recall having any issues. I wonder if it was a bad unit. Perhaps you could warm it up to make it more pliable before inserting it onto the shifter? I'd use lubricant again.

Isopropyl alcohol works best with rubber to steel parts
