Vintage BMW Motorcycle Owners

I think I still have the original grips installed, anyway they are just as hard as life is hard.
I would like to change to softer items, the originality does not matter to me as long as they will fit.

I have seen these:

and the feedbacks do indicate their softness. I would love to hear your opinion and recommendations for these or any other solution.

They're cheap enough to just give it a shot!! It says for 7/8" and 22mm. I'm pretty sure the bars are 22mm, but 7/8" is bigger than 22mm. Not sure if it's going to work. In situations like that, typically one would wrap the handlebars with some tape just to take up the gap.

have you considered these over your existing grips? I have them on all of my bikes due to the comfort.

Kurt, the bigger grip would go on the throttle tube and the smaller one on the clutch side handlebar.
All grip pairs come with different sized inner diameters. Handlebar/throttle tube.

I see what you're saying and it makes sense. But the ad says"

which leads me to believe they're just saying they can be used for either/or. I don't think you get on 22mm and the other 7/8".

I have these on a couple of bikes including my 69S. They are very comfy without being too spongy/soft or being oversize in diameter.

The original grips are so hard that I do not want to start peeling them, otherwise I will not be able to put them back again. Does anyone in any case have dimensions of the 2 sides?
In my humble opinion, this is more than 22 mm.
22 mm may be the size of the handlebars themselves, but the grips should sit on the throttle and clutch assembly.

I currently do not have access to air pressure: What would be the best way to peel the old grips without damaging them?
I do not know if the new ones are suitable or not, until the moment of assembly.
Also what is the best way to put on the new ones, again - without air pressure?

If your grips are that hard, or have adhered themselves to the bars, you may not be able to save them. Try some WD40 or other lube along the edge and work the grip back and forth starting near the lubed area. It may take some time. Try some gentle heat, like wrap a cloth with hot water around it, or use a hair dryer. At some point you may have to cut it off.

For the new grip, I coat the inside of the grip and the bar with hair spray. It's a good lubricant when wet and you can work the grip to where you want it. Then it dries into a very light glue, I've never had a problem removing a grip seated this way.
