One cylinder coughs and lingers while opening the throttle

The phenomenon is almost completely gone when the engine is warmed up, but there is still a slight hesitation when opening the throttle.
That side also smokes more the the other.
A friend said that I might run a bit lean on that side.
I think the opposite, that the mixture might be to rich.

Your thoughts, please?

Hard to say. I'd try one of the adjustments and see what happens. Then try the opposite adjustment. Easy enough to adjust the screw that controls the air into the idle circuit.

Have you confirmed that the slides are rising at the same time as you twist the throttle? Pull the tubes feeding air into the carbs. Twist the throttle while watching the slides. This can be done with the bike not running.

After I am satisfied with the Idle Air adjustment and roughing in the cable adjustment I go for a ride.
I leave the left locknut loose so I can finger adjust the cable slack. After a few tries It has a good even feel.
Don

Edi: new cables will need adjusting again after a few hundred miles.

Edit2: and check the plugs, they will tell you if the mix is good.

Micha, I would suggest seriously getting a Gunson Color-tune and tuning with that. I always tune to a nice blue and then go 1/4 turn in on the air screw to let the motor come off idle. It will also let you know if you have a bad carb or other issue.
