Heads up folks: a gorgeous and unmolested early R69 is up on Ebay. At present a bit over $ 7K, and a steal at that.
I'd be all over that if I didn't have two already.
BTW, just picked up a '54 Steib S501 to mate with my '51 R67 project. Happy days ahead

Spied that earlier, but... has a later coffee can taillight and later front fender with the brace. Otherwise, a decent project.

I have never seen a 55-56 r50,r60,r69 here in the US with the smaller eber tail light
Is it possible that Buttler & Smith change them after they imported them from Germany

Not likely B&S changed them. They were imported with the small tail light (two different styles) up until sometime in '57, I think. Rare to find one still on those bikes. If it has a coffee can and you think it had an Eber, just look under the can and see if there is a smaller, three-hole pattern for the Eber mount. None of the holes line up with the coffee can mounting, so it's easy to tell. Ebers are available, but you have to weld shut the coffee can holes and repaint the fender. I've got two with the Eber, a '55 R69 and a '56 R69.

I found it amazing that the bike was "built on April 21, 1955 and delivered on the same(my emphasis) day to the BMW importer Butler and Smith in New York City." Assuming it was built in Germany, that was some fast shipping in the day.

Many bikes come back from the archives like that.

I think it suggests that Butler & Smith took possession of them at the factory, thus it was "delivered".

Thanks Dave
Good info
Dont recall any extra holes on my 55 r50 when it was repainted 20 years ago so may have been filled when the original was replaced with the newer coffee can tailight
